How is your intuition for large numbers? If you read any sort of newspaper or magazine, or watch news on television, you can’t help but encounter really big numbers like 40 million, 3.2 billion, or 2 trillion. Do you REALLY know how big those numbers are? If you’re like most people (me included), your brain probably just sees “illion” and translates it into some fuzzy notion like “a LOT”. That’s where the MegaPenny Project comes to the rescue! It helps develop intuition for the size of big numbers by using pictures of pennies. It’s quite charming, not to mention that it’s a lot of fun trying to wrap your mind around things like a pile of pennies the size and shape of the Empire State Building!
Don’t forget to check out the MegaMoo section while you’re there, too.
